While there are no PCBs or step-by-step instructions offered for this project, this simple, passive circuit. Reamp Box Transformer Anyone sourced some 10k/600 transformers from the UK Or europe, to be used for a reamp box. April 18th, 2023 What is Reamping Reamping is a studio recording technique that involves taking a recorded audio track (usually guitar or bass) and playing it back through a guitar amplifier, then capturing the results by recording the output of the amp to a new track. However, for better results, passive DI boxes are a better option for reamping. Jensen’s DIY reamp is designed for a Jensen transformer (surprise). Any DI Box can be used to record a clean audio signal at the first reamp stage. ![]() Without the reamp box there will be an impedance mismatch and loss of tone. The goal of the reamp box is to make the amplifier react in exactly the same way a live guitar would, but with a pre-recorded audio source. Or just one cable could be used for both send and receive (in this case one should be careful not to connect the send amp to the converter output but with proper protection it shouldn't hurt anything). Jensen, maker of high-end audio transformers, posted a schematic for a balanced line level to unbalanced instrument level converter (AKA reamp) box on their website. A reamp box converts a low impedance, balanced line level signal to high impedance, unbalanced instrument level signal. This would mean having both send and receive cables connected to the converters. This way, you are simply reproducing the signal exactly as if the guitar were the source.Īn ideal reamp box might have a switch that switches between either the guitar and the high Z buffer out OR the playback source input (leaving the guitar disconnected). Inside the box I would think the transformer shield is not needed since the box protects it, unless youve got more electronics in the same chassis. On playback, use a transparent buffer to inject the dry in place of the guitar taking care to make sure the level is the same. ![]() The correct way to reamp, IMO, is to capture dry signal at the amp input with a very high impedance buffer (10M) so that you're simply tapping into what the amp input "sees" without adding any load or parasitics (capacitance). Click to expand. If you want to reproduce the signal at the amp input exactly, then it is not correct to match the source impedance characteristics to those of a guitar.
